What is Intuition?

What is Intuition?

There are at least 2 experiences we refer to when we describe Intuition:

1) Our Gut

2) The Intuitive Mind

In this way, there are 2 sources of Intuition:

1) The Body

2) And the Mind

They both pick up information, and express themselves, differently.

The Intuition of the Gut

The guttural intuition is really an expression of microorganisms extending from our gut to the surface of our skin and therefore connecting “us” with everything around us.

Scientific research is discovering that through scent and touch there is an aerial and contact-based transference of microorganisms, between one person and another in physical proximity. The microorganisms on the skin are like dominoes of messengers sending information from the outside world to our inside world. And vice versa, sharing information about what is going on within our bodies, with what is going on around us. And this transference of information is what enables our bodies to know more about our environment in relation to us.

To enhance the intuition of the gut:

We must first have a sense of microbial regulation. If we have dysregulation in our gut microflora, our capacity to distinguish the cause of fluctuations is diminished.

When our gut intuition is strong, we discern the influences around us skillfully, knowing how things relate to our "self", discerning whether something is friend or foe, yes or no.

The Intuition of the Mind

Mind's Intuition is different from the gut intuition, it does not need sensorial contact to pick-up information and is connected to the true mind.

It is enhanced through meditation and relinquishing attachment to the self.

When this intuition is strong, we are able to do two things: 1) perceive things that are happening in real time but imperceptible to our physical senses, and 2) perceive things before they become perceptible to our senses.

Pattern Recognition

Is an expression of the mental mind. An ability often mistaken for intuition. Pattern recognition is actually logical deduction and often projection. Based on memory, intellect, and behavioural patterns. Associated more with hypervigilance than intuition, it is the capacity to detect patterns in behaviour of nature, the moon, people, the seasons etc.

This is also enhanced through meditation, which is essential for distinguishing whether you are really perceiving patterns or projections. An important distinction. And enhanced through education.

When pattern recognition is strong: we are less blindsided by life, can predict things, “see things coming” in a more obvious sense. And have a deeper understanding of the world we live in.

If Intuition is a quality you wish to deepen, I recommend clearing your mind, so that the true mind can speak.  In our meditation classes, we’ll practice the skills that make intuition clearer. See you there.
