What is a Good Mind?

A mind that does what you want it to do. If you want it to stop thinking, it is still. If you want it to be creative, it has an idea 💡. If you want it to remember, it's all suddenly vivid and clear.

A mind that does what you don’t want it to do, is out of your control and more importantly, out of your choice. When you cannot choose your thoughts, or choose the vitality or buoyancy in your mind, when you have invasive thoughts that disturb you, then the mind needs a bit of help.

All minds are susceptible to the same things. It is what we do to train and support our minds that makes us act as the “owner” of that mind, instead of its slave.

What can we do to train and support our minds?

To train our mind we use discipline- not force, not gaslighting ourselves. Discipline is gentle and surrendering, and based on trust. It is not mean, coercive, or punishing. Discipline overall makes us feel better. It is the breakthrough you arrive at, when you’ve walked through a dark tunnel for a while. A gentle voice that says “Stay, walk on.” The thrashing against it, wanting to do anything else, be anywhere else, is a natural struggle of your sense of self, discipline just learns to sit with it.

To support our minds we use: discipline, herbs, healthy relationships and education.

Anything that supports your mind, by enabling it to do what you want it to do, is an ally.
